Tomima Edmark Lingerie Expert Bra Fit Expert

Hello there,

I’m excited to report a sudden improvement in swimwear for this year. Manufacturers are back to receiving inventory from their factories again. This good news means we now have an increased selection for you to consider, along with some fun new trends for the 2021 swim season.

Whether you’re planning a staycation or vacation, there is nothing more uplifting than a new on-trend piece of swimwear – especially post-pandemic. My swimwear buying team has done another terrific job identifying and sourcing this year’s new swim trends. And, they’ve worked extra hard this season to find more plus-sized non-bra-sized swim offerings. We now have swimwear up to 24W sizing.

2021 Swimsuit Trends

Swimwear trends this year are happy, fun, and whimsical. Many are also sun conscious, sustainable, and designed for action, should you wish to be more active.

Bright-colored Happy Prints

The color palette this year is bright, colorful prints. If prints are what you’re looking for, once in our Swim Department, simply click on our color filter and then select the swatch “pattern” to see them all. Many of the prints have a variety of silhouettes to choose from.

Ruffles

Ruffles on swimsuits this year are sized large, small, or simply used as an embellishment. They give a fun and flirty look to swimwear.

One-Shoulder/Asymmetrical

One-shoulder styles are back again this year along with asymmetrical design elements – even bikini bottoms. A great offset line on the body is flattering on all.

Tie Details

Rather than bows, the detail this season is a simple tie knot. Also popular are tie/string detailing and ties that create ruching.

Sport Oriented

My buying team reports that sport oriented swimwear is growing. Those itsy-bitsy string bikinis that can quickly be undone or pulled off with a big wave are pretty much gone. Women still want cute bathing suits, but more coverage is in demand along with the ability to comfortably participate in activities without worry of an exposure slip. More coverage is the new classy.

Sustainable/Reversible

Sustainable/Reversible swimwear remains popular. Fabrics originating from recycled plastic bottles, fishing lines, nets, and repurposed marine plastics remain popular. To find these styles, select “sustainable” in our swimwear features filter and then review their fabric content. Another approach to sustainable swimwear is to make the pieces reversible thereby creating two options and thus eliminate the need to buy that second suit. Again, select “reversible” in our swimwear feature filter to help you see all these clever and innovative styles.

Cutouts

Swim manufacturers had fun this year with cutouts. It’s a known design fact that a cutout is more attention-grabbing than skimpy coverage. So, if you’re looking to catch someone’s eye, consider cutouts.

Cap Sleeves

Sun protection is now on everyone’s minds. Swimwear with cap sleeves or super-wide straps stops that lobster shoulder side-effect. Plus they are super flattering.

Animal Prints

Animal prints remain strong this season. Most of us have classic all-black swimwear. Animal prints are that classic print that easily mixes with black to give your basics a fresh new look while expanding your swimwear wardrobe. The newest animal prints are those imitating reptiles and mixing animal prints in the background of a floral print.

More Plus-Size Swimwear

Exciting news this year is the addition of more plus-size swimwear brands and added Women’s sizes 16W-24W. The new brands include Raisins Curve, Beach House Woman, Profile by Gottex, Miraclesuit, and MagicSuit.

Swimsuits sized like a bra

I am a huge advocate for bra-sized swimwear because it’s an outstanding fit and thus, far more flattering. To prove this, I pulled two very similar one-piece bathing suits from our inventory – one sized like a swimsuit (size 4) and the other sized like a bra (size 32G(D4). Here is a side-by-side comparison of the same model:

These images say it all – bra-sized swimwear is far more flattering and a much more attractive fit.

One-Piece Fit Considerations

One-piece bra-sized swimsuits look fantastic and have the added benefit of covering your torso. Similar to clothing, manufacturers must make waist and hip proportion decisions. As a general rule, one-piece swimwear is designed to fit a woman 5’4” to 5’8” tall and assumes an average hip and waist proportion. So, long-waisted and short-waisted women wanting a one-piece are challenged to find a great fit. A tankini is probably their better option. Generous hips and waists will require a bra size adjustment to get the best fit. Pear-shaped or those with a tummy will get more room in the torso area by moving up a band size and down a cup size (e.g. a 36DD(D2) moves to a 38D or maybe even a 40C).

My swim buying team is dogged in ferreting out the hip and waist measurements manufacturers use and then including them on our charts. HerRoom is the only site that does this so that you can make an educated and successful size decision prior to purchasing.

Our OUTSTANDING Swim Details

If I may, I’d like to brag about the great job my content team does to bring you the very best and most information on swimwear, so that you are a very educated consumer. Every swimsuit we offer has a highly detailed description, product measurements, and a 360° on-model video so that you may see each suit in motion. We also catch every detail with our photography. It may not be pretty, but if there’s a detail inside the suit, we turn it inside out and show it to you. If there are removable pads or straps, we take it apart so you can see this as well. My team wants to make sure you have the most information, so you can make the best swimsuit choices for you.

A Final Thought…

I want to share that HerRoom has a new lingerie brand, Ilusion, in sizes 34-44 B-D, XS-2X. It is the most popular and recognized brand in Mexico. We are being allowed to introduce it to the US market at a 30% discount. Take a look!

Fondly,

Tomima Founder & CEO HerRoom.com
